One Percent For The Planet is a global movement of companies that has agreed to donate 1% of their revenues to environmental organisation of their choice.

1% was founded in 2002 by two friends, Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies and Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. Both being passionate environmentalists, they realised early in the careers that the environment was and will ever be a crucial part of their live and business.

Setting out to give back to earth a part of the success of their businesses, the 1% initiative was founded in the Patagonia store in California. The program became an instant success and started to grew slowly but steadily. Today over 1200 companies donate one percent of their revenues to over 2.000 environmental organisations every year.

We at Einarsson Fly Fishing read the book “Let My People Go Surfing” by Yvon Chouinard back in 2007. From the first page to the last we felt that this was the way we wanted to build our company. Einarsson Fly Fishing is based around the same idea as Patagonia that respect and protection of the environment should not be considered as a cost for a business, but an opportunity to build a better and more profitable business.
